The aluminum-lithium alloy 5A90 is a medium-strength, weldable aluminum-lithium alloy characterized by its low density, high elastic modulus, and excellent corrosion resistance. It’s used to manufacture aerospace structural components, delivering significant weight reduction benefits. This alloy can replace the existing 2024 (2A12) aluminum alloy in applications such as cabin sections, wall panels, and housings.

Characteristics of aluminum-lithium alloy:
1. Low density—adding just 1% lithium reduces the density by 3%.
2. High specific modulus and high specific strength, serving as a replacement for conventional high-strength aluminum alloys—with an elastic modulus increased by 6% and stiffness improved by 15–20%.

4. Excellent corrosion resistance
5. Excellent castability, hot working capabilities (rolling, forging, extrusion), weldability (laser welding, friction stir welding), and machinability.
