Introduction
Zhengzhou Light Alloy Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd.
Zhengzhou Light Alloy Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. was jointly established by the team from the Metal Materials Research Institute of Chinalco Zhengzhou Research Institute of Nonferrous Metals, the team led by Academician He Jilin from Zhengzhou University, the Henan Zhongfu Technology Center, and the Henan Nonferrous Metals Industry Association. It is a science-and-technology-driven innovation enterprise under China Aluminum Corporation, pioneering pilot reforms such as employee stock ownership for scientific researchers and integrating industry, academia, and research. The company has become the 6th military product manufacturing unit within the Chinalco Group. Leveraging the strengths of its unique "university-based fundamental research + institute-level prototyping + company-scale industrialization" collaboration model, it focuses on developing "specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative" products aligned with the 1-to-9 maturity scale for new materials. By adopting a four-pronged development strategy—combining "research platforms, cutting-edge technologies, talent, and high-quality products"—the company is dedicated to advancing the research, development, production, sales, and technical services of high-performance nonferrous alloy materials.
The company occupies a site spanning over 200 mu, with laboratory and production facilities covering an area of 60,000 square meters. It is equipped with more than 300 sets of advanced research and production equipment, and its fixed assets are valued at 200 million yuan. The company boasts nine dedicated laboratories—including those for melting & casting, chemical analysis, microstructure analysis, physical property testing, mechanical performance evaluation, corrosion & anti-corrosion studies, non-destructive testing, heat treatment, and alloy processing and forming—as well as 10 state-of-the-art production lines: vacuum melting and casting, aluminum alloy melting and casting, magnesium alloy melting and casting, rolling, extrusion, drawing, forging, casting, surface treatment, and machining. With capabilities ranging from small-scale trials (from a few kilograms to around 100 kg) in the lab to pilot-scale production at the ton-level, and finally to full-scale industrialization, the company offers end-to-end expertise in alloy research and manufacturing. We can systematically investigate the intricate relationships among alloy composition, production processes, and material performance. Additionally, we provide comprehensive, full-process services tailored to customer needs—ranging from design and material selection based on client-provided blueprints, through material melting and casting, to precision machining, joining techniques, and surface treatments, ultimately delivering complete components. Alternatively, we can undertake bespoke product development tailored to specific customer requirements, enabling the creation of entirely custom solutions.
The company specializes in researching and producing lightweight alloy products—such as high-strength, high-modulus, heat- and corrosion-resistant plates, strips, foils, tubes, rods, wires, castings, and forgings—as well as machined components—essential for the defense and military industries. Leveraging advanced technologies like vacuum melting and casting, along with innovative magnesium alloy roll-forming processes, the company boasts a robust portfolio of independently developed, cutting-edge products. Notably, its lightweight structural materials, particularly magnesium-lithium alloys, account for over 70% of global production and more than 95% of China’s output. Additionally, the company is one of only eight global producers of aluminum-lithium alloys. Its proprietary high-strength, heat-resistant magnesium-rare earth alloys, stainless magnesium alloys, high-strength heat-resistant aluminum-copper alloys, and aluminum-based composite materials are widely utilized across both defense/military applications and civilian sectors. The company also provides comprehensive technical services and consulting—ranging from laboratory testing to pilot-scale trials, analysis, and quality control—for the nonferrous metals industry.
The company employs over 200 people and is committed to a high-quality growth strategy. It has assembled a top-tier technical team, led by academicians and primarily composed of "Double First-Class" master’s and doctoral researchers. Among the R&D staff, 53 hold PhD or master’s degrees, while 81 have bachelor’s degrees or higher. The company has been recognized as part of China’s Leading Innovation Team in Nonferrous Metals and Henan Province’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Team, with 11 members selected as national, provincial, or municipal-level talent. Additionally, the company has spearheaded the development and revision of 2 international standards, 4 national standards, and 1 industry standard, along with registering 3 branded trademarks. A groundbreaking vacuum melting and casting technology—achieving military-grade material maturity levels ranging from 1 to 9—has enabled the company to rapidly advance from laboratory-scale experiments through small-scale and pilot-scale trials, ultimately scaling up to full-scale industrial production. This innovative approach has already facilitated the large-scale application of advanced magnesium-lithium alloy components in critical national projects, including over 50 satellite parts, the skin panels of the Chang’e spacecraft, missile components, and specialized aircraft pods and housings. Notably, the research achievement titled "Development and Industrialization of Ultra-Lightweight Magnesium-Lithium Alloys for Aerospace Applications" was rigorously evaluated and endorsed by four renowned academicians in August 2022. As a result, the project was awarded the First Prize (Invention) in Science and Technology by China’s Nonferrous Metals Industry for 2022.
Zhengzhou Light Alloy Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. established its wholly-owned subsidiary, Henan Aerospace New Materials Research Institute CO., LTD, on June 1, 2022, with an investment of 500 million RMB and occupying a site area of 93,072.31 m².
